Eco Council

We believe that ‘sustainable development is about enabling people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life, without comprising future generations'.  This means finding ways to improve our lives without damaging the environment and without storing up problems for the future, or transferring them to other parts of society or the world’. (Eco-Schools)

At Coedylan we are part of the Eco-Schools programme which provides a framework to help establish sustainable principles into the centre of school life. This programme makes tackling sustainable issues manageable and easy by following a simple seven step process

  1. Organising an Eco-Committee
  2. Carrying out an Environmental Review
  3. Creating an Action Plan, a plan for environmental actions in our school
  4. Curriculum Links
  5. Informing and Involving
  6. Monitoring and Evaluation
  7. Creating an Eco-Code
Over the years we have covered topics such as Biodiversity, Energy, Global Citizenship, Bee Friendly, Healthy Living, Litter, transforming our School Grounds, Transport, Waste and Water. We also take part in actions linked to charities, such as RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch and celebrate National days such as Earth Day and World Ocean’s Day.

We believe we are working towards becoming a sustainable school by providing a more efficient and healthier environment for our pupils in which to learn and in 2019 we achieved the platinum award.
